How would I best mount an extra hard drive in a computer that has all expansion bays full?

If I decided to put in an extra DVD player or Blue Ray, I would be out of expansion bays for an extra HD. But there is plenty of room on the floor of the case, with no obstructions. What sort of hardware would be best? I will install the HD first in the last expansion bay. I am thinking ahead to future changes. Thanks.

  1. a hard drive cage like htis one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999141&Tpk=icage can be easily mounted with a bolt or two to the floor of the computer. you could then put 3 more hard drives into the computer for later expansion. Hope this helps
  2. Most machines have enough bays for all the drive connections they support. If you run out of bays you normally have no more connections. If you have the connection to go with it, you should look to the case manufacture for a mounting kit. Failing that, you should consider buying a pair of right angle brackets to screw to the base and drill them to suit the drive screw holes.
  3. Get a external enclosure and mount your drive in it. Works with the usb and you will have no cable problems. I prefer laptop drives because of the small size. Further, portability is a plus. Barring that, drill away and hang it anywhere you can access the ide / sata and power cables. Pay attention to proper air flow, and make sure your power supply will support it.
