What is the law regarding your place of work and parking bays reserved for certain members of staff?

Several parking bays were reserved for Directors and visitiors. Since they moved to a new head office the majority of these bays are not used. Certain members of management and staff have now been given permission to use these bays. Anyone else who uses them are subject to having a sticker put on their car and told to move and face disciplinary action. Is this legal.

Public Comments

  1. Of course it's legal. It's their parking lot.
  2. If they are in private property and they own them or are given permition by the owner then they can do whatever they want with them. Private property is private property; tha fact the they let you use the parking lot doesn't mean you have any rights over it.
  3. Yes, this is legal. When you own private property, you can let others on for a specific purpose. These people are called "licensees." When a licensee is granted a license to come on the property ("license" is just a legal term; it just means you were given permission, not a physical license), the licensor (person giving the license) can revoke it at will, condition it, limit it, etc. If you exceed the scope of the authorization, you become a trespasser. If the owner says "You may enter my property to park in these four parking spots only," and you enter the property to park in that fifth spot, you have become a trespasser (even though you initially came on with persmission). Towing you would be legal -- with the usual limitations: they have to use reasonable force, take care when they remove the car, etc. In other words they can't blow up your car because you were parked in the wrong spot, but they can move it out of the lot.
